Active Southland Board of Trustees 

One Appointed Board Member and Two Co-opted Board Members

Active Southland is seeking committed and community-minded trustees to join our Board in 2026. If you are motivated to contribute to the wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities across Southland - particularly in the Sport, Active Recreation, Play, and Health sectors -we’d like to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to influence the direction of a regional organisation with a long history of supporting Southlanders to be active and healthy, and to help drive our vision of “Everyone Active Every Day.”

The Role

As a Board Member, you will play a key part in guiding the organisation’s strategy, ensuring strong governance oversight, and championing equitable access to active opportunities that suit everyone. You’ll contribute to decisions that help shape and grow active, healthy communities across Southland.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome a range of skills and perspectives. In particular, we are seeking candidates with:

· Health sector experience (such as public health, community health, hauora, health promotion), or health system leadership;

· Finance and commercial understanding;

· Experience with oversight and delivery of strategy.

· Strong community connections, including Eastern Southland

· Competency or lived experience in te ao Māori, Pacifica or other minority communities

· Understanding of Sport, Active Recreation, Play, or Health

Commitment

The role involves 6–8 Board meetings per year, each approximately 3–4 hours, with some preparation required. Additional strategy sessions and Board development activities may be scheduled throughout the year.

This is a voluntary governance position. A modest stipend is provided to support time and travel.

Physical Activity and Nutrition Advisor

Active Southland is looking for a Physical Activity and Nutrition Advisor to inspire whānau and individuals to live healthier, more active lives. This is a hands‑on, people‑focused role where no two days are the same.

You’ll work closely with Green Prescription and Active Families clients, building confidence and capability through motivational interviewing, tailored physical activity and nutrition support, and community connection. Along the way, you’ll develop valuable skills in behaviour change, health coaching, facilitation, stakeholder engagement and programme delivery.

This role is ideal for someone wanting to grow their career in public health, sport, exercise or nutrition while making a genuine difference across Southland. You’ll be supported with professional development opportunities, experienced colleagues, and the chance to contribute ideas that shape how services are delivered.

Athletics Southland board members

Athletics Southland is seeking expressions of interest for up to three appointed board members to join their governance team.

It is a great opportunity to contribute to our new structure and assist with the strategic direction and ongoing growth of athletics across the Southland region, including Queenstown.

We are looking for people who can bring strong governance capabilities, fresh perspective, a commitment and passion to support athletics - the foundation to all sports - for an initial term of between one and (up to) three years.
