Valuable workshop for regional sports organisations


A three-day workshop for regional sport development leaders in Southland has been hailed as a success.

Led by Sport New Zealand, with support from Active Southland, the residential brought together leaders in the Southland region who are involved in the design and implementation of sport pathways, quality participation and development experiences for rangatahi (youth aged 12-18).

Sport NZ trainers Kelly Curr and Hugh Galvan (Regional Sport Development consultants), and Andrew Hewetson (National Sport Development consultant) delivered content with Active Southland supporting ongoing projects identified during the workshop.

Outcomes from the workshop included and increased understanding of the Balance is Better principles, increased confidence and competence to lead in the sector, and identification of a key initiative, work area or challenge to work on.

Participants appreciated the opportunity to work collaboratively, share knowledge, successes and learnings, develop skills and confidence to try new approaches.
