New Green Prescription advisor passionate about healthy lifestyles

New Green Prescription physical activity and nutrition advisor Jonnette Henwood is passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and empowering people to achieve their goals.

Jonnette has just achieved a big goal of her own - returning to study as an adult student and completing a three-year Bachelor of Sport and Exercise at SIT.

“I’ve always had a passion for exercise and sport, I was one of those kids who just loved to play sport,” she says.

“It’s been really character-building, juggling family life, studying - and I didn’t even know how to study - lots of learning and growing, sacrifices and discipline.”

Jonnette juggled her study with a busy family life, working part-time at a gym, coaching sport, and teaching at the Murihiku Trades Academy.

Despite all that she was the top student in her class, winning the Active Southland-sponsored award.

“I’m so thankful that I was able to get the opportunity to study. It’s been an interesting past three years,” she says.

“I’ve learnt a lot about myself, and had to overcome a lot of self-doubt.”

Coaching is an important part of Jonnette’s life, something which has grown as her family has.

“Coaching is so rewarding for me. Seeing people progress as individuals, just seeing that growth in confidence.”

Touch and netball are her two main sports, although diving and surfing  have a special place in her heart.

“I love the ocean, but diving went on pause for the last three years. I love gathering kai with my family.”

Jonnette joins Active Southland’s team of Physical Activity and Nutrition Advisors who provide free personalised support for anyone wanting to be more healthy and move more.

The Green Prescription programme is designed to enhance physical, mental and social wellbeing through free physical activity and healthy eating support.

Individuals can sign up for the free programme on the Green Prescription page at activesouthland.co.nz or be referred by their GP.
