The team at the Invercargill branch of Calder Stewart are firm believers in the benefits of work/life balance.
Which is why 12 of their staff, friends and family have signed up to do this Saturday’s MLT Moonshine Trail, and why the company have paid half their entry fees.
Run by Sport Southland, and supported by a range of organisations including the Mataura Licensing Trust, Ewan Allan Honda, CrossRoad Cycles, Pure Sports Nutrition, Macpac, Heartland Hotels, Southland Isuzu, Shoe Clinic, and the Gore District Council, the MLT Moonshine Trail is a mountainbike, running, and walking event that takes in the gorgeous Hokonui hills around Dolamore Park near Gore.
For Calder Stewart draughtsperson JG Vosloo, getting in, having a go, and having fun is the main aim.
He has signed up to do the duathlon, but the rest of the team will be competing in a variety of sections. There are no designs on crossing the finish line in first place though.
“It’s just for fun.”
“It’s more to enjoy the day.”
It will be the first time taking part in the event for everyone in the group, but interest had been high and he is hopeful, if Saturday goes well, that an even larger group may sign up next year.
Having the support of their employer was fantastic as it not only showed how much they valued their staff, but also helped set a scene for workplace wellbeing, he said.
“It shows that Calder Stewart promotes the healthy work and play balance.”
Online registrations for the MLT Moonshine Trail close on Wednesday night (February 6).
